Original review: Among the many flaws of this overpriced app, that should have been addressed years ago, two of the most annoying ones are related to the renewal of your annual subscription and to the overall value of the subscription. 1. Annual renewal: You will be charged but the renewal will not appear on the app and none of the purchases will show as active. Using the “restore purchases” function does nothing in most cases. Over the years, as I renewed the subscription, I have had to delete the app completely from all my devices. This means that all files are deleted as well. You will need to do a fresh download of the app after which you will have to reupload all your files again. This process takes forever as there is no way to upload multiple files at once. 2. Value: the satellite maps were downgraded over the years from high resolution to low resolution maps as the developer switched map vendors. While the maps were downgraded, the cost not only did not go down it actually went up. The advanced package turned into nothing more than a low res off line maps download with no other features. It is outrageous that for the cost of the advanced package you get so little. You cannot even download off road maps along the route. You have to go tile by tile to download these low res maps. Comparing to other off road navigation apps, the cost is super high and the value is super questionable App owner response: “LEADNAV is the professional GPS interface that we needed and dedicated to our smaller group professionals” What??? What does it even mean? Where is this statement in the app description prior to purchasing? Professionals at what? Evidently the owner works with a small group of subscribers and is committed to making the group smaller, much smaller. As far as the rest of the response goes: none of my other off road apps ever had any issues when the subscriptions renews but I guess it’s easy to put it on apple. Also, thanks for advising me to backup my files, seriously??? The downgrade in maps’ quality is mentioned in other reviews.

Even after force closing the app is draining my battery. Fix this fast!!

LeadNav is the ultimate iOS gps app. Nothing from Racing in Baja to the weekender UTV guy in the desert. The versatility and in app upgrades set it apart, if you are serious about you mapping and navigating offroad this is the ONLY app you need.

I’ve been using LeadNav for about 4 years now and it’s become an indispensable asset for off-road racing and navigation. While many seem to have jumped on the bandwagon of new apps because of their baked in routes, it’s nowhere near the functionality of LeadNav. I love the route creation feature and the audio cues are a complete game changer for me as a moto racer. Keep up the good work Damien!

How is it 2022 almost 2023 and all the files are not alphabetical order. I have over 100 maps and takes forever to pick the correct one. Also make it so we can call out way points in advance. Once you go through all that it’s an ok program. Once that is fixed I’ll pay for the high package.

I bought a military humvee from the gov auction…like an idiot. It showed up new and so incredibly awesome. I have no experience and no experience, also I don’t know what I am doing. But this machine is so capable it just takes me everywhere. I am too wide for the UTV trails so I get caught in washes and slot canyons. I needed something and started digging around. This software is not only preferred by the hardcore racing teams I know, my new fabricator uses it on his toys, but surprising I was in contact with another gps system developer that uses the same GPS puck thing and they admitted LEADNAV has really provided the best option for in the field off-road route acquisition. It’s insane how even more capable I am now. I had to buy an iPad and learn from level zero, even just simple iPad buttons, but this system has completely changed my quality life. With this software now, We can leave from the house and search out historical landmarks, from plane wrecks to mines, to public hunting cabins. We can load up the kids to search out wildlife tanks, desert springs, Native American grinding pots that I had no idea were all within a 2 hour radius and plan the route in my new humvee to get there. So easy it’s actually fun to do. Lots of online training available, but you could figure it out on your own. AND I have reached out to the developer and received personal replies answering my question fully and guiding me to a more efficient tip, which he didn’t need to do. If you don’t have this software you are doing it wrong. I need to screen shot my master map with like 100 markers and 20 routes that reaches about 50 mile radius. This is a mush have for anyone camping or off-roading. You have no idea what cool stuff is just around the corner. And you can import all the other app trails and overlay them on these maps. This is a game changer. And once set up you don,t need a signal. On a side note: A camping iPad was not really a priority of mine, but now that I have it, I am not mad about that either. It runs my lights and dash cam. Runs my offline stereo library. Has a few movies for road trips or the 3 and 5 yr old to do puzzles on while in the RV. Cant do that on a garmin or fish finder thingy which I also looked into. I bought it for this software but really everything is better once I committed to LEADNAV.

Wasn’t totally clear that the 5 seat license claimed by the PRO level licensing is through Apple’s account licensing so be aware that you have to have all of your devices tied to the same appleid in order to use them. Additionally, when the automatic download of apps put the app on my iPad (after I installed it first on my iPhone), it did not recognize the license even if I tried to restore purchases. This might be a bug or quirk with the app getting auto installed on the iPad before I purchased the license. Deleting the app from the iPad and installing it again seems to have fixed the issue in case others run into the same thing. FYI on this nuance for the developer and appreciate they responded to my initial review after a few days so I’ve revised my original post.

We bought this app on recommendation from a company we rented a doonbuggy from for a ride in the desert. We were told it worked on satellite so even if we lost cell reception the app would still guide our way. We followed the map for 1hr into the Sonoran desert when we lost the signal. At this point we were without Satellite GPS, we had no cell service and were completely lost in the middle of the desert in 104 degree heat. Our only option was to retrace our path and find our way back to the main road as we had not passed a single person on our entire journey. To say this app was more than a waste of $20 is an understatement!! The stress we experienced on this excursion is beyond ridiculous.

I have been using lead nav for years and loved it. Now they want $250 for off line maps! Nope.

I paid the $20 to be able to upload my own GPX maps and now they’ve taken that ability away and want $250 per year to be able to do what I originally paid for. Not cool. I will be seeking a refund.

I’m a co driver for KOH, BITD, and SCORE and this is the only GPS system I use. Easy to use and mark hazards and VCP’s. If you are racing this is a must use. Plus every time I’ve had a question it get answer pretty quick via Instagram. Thank you keep up the great work!

$20 is the introductory drug dealer price. $70-250 per year subscription needed if you want to use it as something better than the free Apple Maps app that comes with your phone. Speaking of Apple Maps: at least that’s accurate. In Maps, the location is accurate to the point I can tell what room I’m in... In LeadNav, apparently I’m in a field 5.4 miles away. I want my money back.

I’ve used this app for well over a year for many things. Yes mapping things out can take some time, but for me that’s not an issue. Off road courses, and rescue plans and options, the fact i can coordinate with other units using this app and be able to see them as well is great. Being able to leave notes on destination or warming/ caution markers is awesome. All around love the app as well as my team loves to use it as well. I work rescue from a busy metro city all the way out to the middle of no where and this app had never left me not knowing where I’m going.

The app was working great, but now I cannot open my tracks! The app shuts down!

I used this app for a few years and really enjoyed utilizing my own uploaded maps, until my subscription expired. Now to use map overlays I need to spend $250, no thanks.

Unless you subscribe to pro pack. I used to make my own MBTile files.

Bought this hoping to use for glamis it appears I have to purchase another map Apparently the first $20 is to get just their software. I’m gonna stick with Avenza maps!!

Used to be a great app. I have used it for many years. Now, in order for it to be useful offline, you have to purchase their “pro-pack” for an additional $250/year in order to be able to import MBTile maps that you used to be able to do for free. It seems they have turned their focus to professional race teams and neglect those of us that have been users for years. It’s a shame because it really is a very useful nav app. Guess it’s back to Gaia.

To store the good maps on you device you have to spend $70 a year. Used to be $20. Probably not going to continue using.

This is a half baked design in regards to UX. I’m amazed people are touting it as functional.

Great! The subscription cost has tripled to use the maps I’ve downloaded over the last few years using the app. Very disappointing

I was up and running w LeadNav right away on my off road race car and mountain bike but once I went through the vid tutorials I was on a new level. We will forever sure be faster through the course and A LOT safer. ....not to mention it’s a fun system to run.

I bought the app when I saw the reviews are good in outside the country but am in ksa so it’s not working

This app has completely changed how I plan my off road adventures. I used it for a 2500 mile Baja adventure, and was able to create daily routes from stop to stop. I do a lot of off roading in the Western US and pre plan my routes with this app. There is a learning curve, but they have great videos on their website to help. I gladly upgraded to the pro version and the $120 per year is a spit in the bucket for the function/features you receive. I raced in several Baja 1K’s and NORRA M1k. I fought with lowrance god units every time. Using an IPad is so much better, and there are SO many more features with LeadNav.

If you’re looking for backcountry application that uses tiles to zoom in and out this application will do that but very poorly better intended for racing preloaded maps and destination or Propack will get you what you need For us outdoorsman and we can avengers probably not the best app for us be sure to read all reviews on there forum You still have to import your own maps leadnav does not come with maps purchase the application for $20 then purchased the advanced subscription for an additional $30 not extremely impressed but I’m out 50 bucks might as well make use of it

Trying to map out the desert for offline use is a grueling process. Takes a $20 per year in-app purchase if you want satellite imagery. Zooming in beyond your pre-loaded resolution will result in the map rendering itself blank. Marked trails are not able to be overlaid onto the satellite map. Even pre-loading non-satellite maps to show marked routes requires the same process as the satellite maps and has the same issue of zoom/resolution blank rendering. Would require hours of work to preload a large area. I'm sure it's a great app for racers with detailed, planned routes who pay the $150 per year. It's not a good app for weekend warriors / exploring unless you are willing to pay extra and spend hours pre-loading your planned area in small increments.

We use LeadNav on a regular basis for racing and it’s the best on the market. I got drawn for two hunts here in Arizona and decided to use it on my phone for tracking me and marking spots. My guide was blown away. Thanks LeadNav!!

We use LeadNav exclusively for all our route development and durability work with many vehicle manufacturer durability tracking.

Still not sure of the app. Looks nice, but three different iPads and I cant plot a route without the app dumping out of it! Also not sure the price and all the add on's are worth it. Bit pricey. Hope this closing on its own gets fixed or I may need to go back to my Google app which has been extremely reliable so far. Can't see this being that good for military use! The stuff we used was way better.

You guys are killing it with the new updates. I can't wait for the off the grid group tracking. I hope it's all released by the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Baja 1000. Keep the updates coming guys.

Another update that adds some great features. Always listening and improving an already great product is one of Leadnav's strengths. Still quick and easy to use.

A constant continuous improvement app. These guys are no joke. Every update has applicable real world enhancements. I've used it off shore, hunting in the middle of nowhere, snowmobiling, even crabbing in the backwaters of the Chesapeake...I simply don't go off the grid without it anymore. Buy the $20 version with map cache capability...well worth it.

This has become a game changer for my buddies when we're riding in a new area. Being able to download maps and use them without cell service offers peace of mind in all of the remote areas we ride.

Totally customizable maps, this is perfect for offroading and has awesome voice cues that keep me hands free and let me pre-run my routes easily.

Have used this for racing the BAJA 1000, And king of the Hammers... offers amazing prerunning and mapping options. LeadNav also offers a virtually indestructible case for the iPad and antenna.

Sold my lowrance after getting the full experience by downloading the propack and got the dual gps puck antenna for an ipad mini and ram mounts leadnav sells

By far the best investment I've done to my 4800 legends class car! Tech support is outstanding and the app is super easy to use. Pro pack is worth the cost with the in car audio assistant.

Best mapping/gps app I've ever used. I went with the full pro pac and am using my Stand alone gps only for backup. Looks fantastic on iPad!

The new larger text for waypoints is great for easier viewing at speed!

Don't waste the $20.00 and go to Google maps-it does more.

Seems like a very well thought out app, but its trying to nickel and dime me for every little thing i try to do after the purch. Want to add waypoints? $1.99 additional, want terra maps? $19.99 extra. Just charge me $50 and get it over with! I hate it when people bait me with one price and then everything else is additional. Hey, LeadNav is a great app and will be really useful when exploring back-country trails. Purchasing and installing the app were simple and fast. I'm still learning the app, so I don't have a lot to comment on about some of the finer points; but, it seems to be very capable. I also want to comment on the great service and support that I have received directly and through the website forum. I know a lot of my questions were pretty basic. The answers I received were quick and well-explained. I also purchased some hardware through the online store. The parts were in stock and they shipped less than a day after placing my order. Highly recommended app and vendor! Jeff

The GPS is Killer...best off-roading application out there!

Great app used it for pre running in Baja. This app is well needed I put my old fish finder back in my boat.
